EFFECT OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF AMINOACIDS ON PLANT YIELD AND SOME PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN BEAN PLANTS IRRIGATED WITH SEAWATER Acta biol.Colomb.
SH SADAK,Mervat; ABDELHAMID,Magdi T; SCHMIDHALTER,Urs.
Salinity decreases yield in arid and semi-arid areas. With increasing demand for irrigation water, alternative sources are being sought. Seawater salinity was previously considered unusable for irrigation. However, this water can be used successfully to grow crops under certain conditions. Amino acids is well known biostimulant which has positive effects on plant growth and yield, and significantly mitigates the injuries caused by abiotic stresses. Therefore, in the present study, the effect of exogenously treatment amino acid on faba bean plant growing under seawater salt stress was investigated. Reduction of salinity damage in faba bean by using a mixture of amino acids to improve morphological and biochemical parameters, and thus raising the level of...

IMPROVING THE TOLERANCE OF Vicia faba AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL SALINITY RESULTED FROM THE IRRIGATION WITH SEA WATER BY USING KNO3 AND (NH4)2SO4 AS CHEMICAL OSMOREGULATORS Acta biol.Colomb.
MOHAMED,KAMEL.
The familiar solutes, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, PO4(3-), SO4(2-), soluble carbohydrates, amino acids and soluble proteins, which play a role in osmotic adjustment were estimated to investigate the role of potassium nitrate and ammonium sulphate as osmoregulators and their effects on the solutes composition. Vicia faba L. was cultivated and irrigated with 5, 10, 15 and 20 % (v:v) sea water. The plants were divided to three groups. The first was irrigated with sea water only. The second was treated with 5 mM KNO3 while the third was treated with 5mM (NH4)2SO4. The plants were left to grow until flowering stage. The results indicated that the non treated group increased the soluble carbohydrates in the roots to avoid the influx of sodium. The treatment with...

INTERACTIVE EFFECTS OF SALINITY STRESS AND NICOTINAMIDE ON PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF FABA BEAN PLANT Acta biol.Colomb.
MAGDI T,ABDELHAMID; MERVAT SH,SADAK; URS,SCHMIDHALTER; ABDEL-KAREEM M.,EL-SAADY.
A possible survival strategy for plants under saline conditions is to use some compounds that could alleviate the salt stress effect. One of these compounds is nicotinamide (vitamin B3/niacin). The effect of exogenous application of nicotinamide with different concentrations (0, 200 or 400 mg l-1) on faba bean (Vicia faba L.) plant grown at different NaCl levels (0, 50 or 100 mM) was investigated in the wire house of the National Research Centre, Cairo, Egypt. Salinity stress significantly reduced the photosynthetic pigments, polysaccharides, total carbohydrates, total-N contents of shoot, plant height, leaves number, fresh and dry weights of shoot, seed yield, total carbohydrates and total crude protein of the yielded seeds compared with those of the...

Investigations of Growth Promoting Activity of Some Phenolic Acids CIGR Journal
El-Awadi, Mohamed ElSayed.
The effect of phenolic acids as caffeic, ferulic or salicylic acids at low concentrations (up to 30 ppm) were investigated on faba bean growth, yield and some physiological processes. The experiments were carried out during the two growing seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 at the Research and Production Station, National  Research  Centre,  Nubaria  Province,  Behaira  Governorate,  Egypt. Caffeic, ferulic or salicylic acids increased growth of faba bean plant over the untreated control. Caffeic acid at 20 ppm. showed observable significant increase in dry weight of shoot. Regarding the effect of phenolic acids on some chemical compounds, caffeic acid is seemed to be having the greatest promotive effect on total photosynthetic pigments in fresh leaf...

Weed Management, Folic Acid and Seaweed Extract Effects on Faba Bean Plants and Associated Weeds under Sandy Soil Conditions CIGR Journal
Dawood, Mona Gergis.
Two field experiments were conducted during the winter seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 at the agricultural experimental station of the National Research Centre, Nubaria, Egypt. Field evaluation of the efficiency of weed-control treatments (unweeded, oxadiargyl, metribuzin and two hand hoeing) and  bio-stimulants levels (folic acid at the rate of 10, 20 and 30 mg/L, and seaweed extract 100, 200 and 300 mg/L) and their interactive effects on faba bean growth, yield, yield attributes and chemical composition of seeds. Two hand hoeing achieved the highest weed depression expressed in the lowest dry matter of broadleaved, narrow-leaved and total weeds. Also, two hand hoeing was the most superior treatment in increasing plant height, shoot dry weight, leaf...
